About low voltage lighting and track lighting

By using low-wattage cables and bulbs, you can create great lighting design and moods with just a little bit of power.

To install a low voltage lighting system you need the right combination of low voltage cables and light fixtures. These cables connect and plug into a transformer that reduces the 110 V standard current to a 12 current, delivering the low current to the low voltage lights connected to it.

The best areas of the house or office to use low voltage lights are in areas where you don’t need a great deal of light, but where accented or general lighting can be applied: hallways, outdoor walkways, landscape and architectural accents are just a few ideas. If you need help installing the lights, feel free to contact anyone connected to the pages here at the Lighting Community.

Low voltage track lighting helps to save money and provides you with an opportunity to help the environment.

The standard 120 volts of electricity travels up the track to the lighting fixture where it is transformed into the 12 volts that low voltage fixtures use.                                            Because of this transformation, all low voltage light fixtures must house a transformer. T

hese can cause the fixture to be larger than a line voltage fixture; however, it’s possible to install a single transformer on the track itself to allow the fixture to be smaller.

The fixtures do cost more upfront, but the cost is made up for in the long term through reduced electric bills.
