About low voltage transformer

A low voltage transformer is a device found inside low voltage light fixtures that transforms 120 volt electric currents into 12 volt electric currents that low voltage lighting systems use.

If you tried using low voltage lighting without a transformer, you’d probably blow out the bulb and cause a fire or injury.

Low voltage transformers are built into almost every low voltage light source, and those that don’t have included in the fixture usually include somewhere else.                          However, some track lighting fixtures do expect you to use a transformer installed on the track itself.

Transformers exist in just about every electrical appliance you own, most appliances don’t need all 120 volts that are supplied by the wall outlets.

In the early 1900s an engineer named Nikola Tesla created transformers to help AC electricity become the type of electricity we all use in our homes and businesses today.
